BJU then and now...Tim Geiger (continued)
As noted previously Tim Geiger is the president of Harvest USA. He is also a contributor to The Gospel Coalition (TGC). Dr. Tim Keller is the co-founder and president of the TGC. His writings are also part of Mr. Geiger's resource collection at Harvest USA. Dr. Horn at the end of his interview with Geiger encouraged pastors to make use of these resources. Here is what Dr. Keller has to say about the sin of Homosexuality.
Geiger and Keller (see my previous blog post on Geiger) say that homosexuality is a sin but they quickly qualify their statements by affirming that all sin is equal. There is no sin but the sins of the heart like pride or greed.
Mr. Geiger and Dr. Keller are both members of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). The PCA maintains in its own confession of faith that all sins are not equal.
Question 150: Are all transgressions of the law of God equally heinous in themselves, and in the sight of God?
Answer: All transgressions of the law of God are not equally heinous; but some sins in themselves, and by reason of several aggravations, are more heinous in the sight of God than others.
Dr. Keller, would you like to show love to your gay neighbors? The best way to do this, sir, is to tell them THE TRUTH. Homosexuality is particularly heinous because of the nature of the sin. It is an abomination within an abomination and receives God's special judgment. Romans 1:26-27
Is pride a sin? Yes. Pride is the sin that kept the Corinthians from dealing with gross sin in a scriptural way. Can we fellowship with a homosexual in the church? Yes, under one condition. Total transformation evidenced by genuine repentance and by ending the homosexual behavior.
In Dr. Horn's interview with Mr. Geiger, Dr. Horn asks Mr. Geiger about how to deal with Christians in the church who have "embraced the lifestyle of same sex attraction or gay/lesbian lifestyles". Paul the Apostle in 1 Corinthians 5 makes it very clear, cast them out. Mr. Geiger and Dr. Horn make it clear, build a bridge/mutual respect.
