BJU then and now...Abby Johnson

Image
On February 2018 Dr. Steve Pettit president of Bob Jones University praised Dr. Billy Graham's ministry and his legacy. During a chapel message on November 7th of 2019, Dr. Bob praised the ministry of Dr. Billy Kim . Dr. Kim has always been a lover of the Graham ministry. It is a well-documented fact that Graham and Kim made partnering with the Roman Catholics (and others)  IN MINISTRY  a matter of course. Johnson On January 23, 2020, BJU invited the public on campus to screen the movie Unplanned created by pro-life advocate Abby Johnson. Then on March 5, 2020, BJU hosted the Piedmont Women's Center (PWC) for their fundraising event. The speaker for the evening was Abby Johnson. During the event, Johnson "preached the gospel". On stage, displayed on a banner, were the words of Isaiah 43:19. Johnson said, "We must give the gospel to these ladies, not the watered-down Jesus but the powerful Jesus...everyone here is a sinner and in the need of a savior...

BJU then and now...Dr Billy Kim

Image
On November 7th of 2019, Dr. Bob spoke to the students in Chapel. Here he praised Dr. Billy Kim for his exemplary ministry and spread of the gospel in the far east. Hear these remarks at the beginning of his message . Now listen as Dr. Kim speaks at Dr. Graham's funeral. As you can see Dr. Kim adored Dr. Graham. Dr. Kim translated for Dr. Graham during his South Korean campaign. Kim is known as the Billy Graham of Asia. Kim was also the president of Baptist World Alliance from 2000-2005. BWA is a witch's brew of theological error and compromise. From broad evangelicals to open apostates, Dr. Kim represented them all. Kim He is also the chairman of the Far East Broadcasting company. They translate and broadcast sermons by Rick Warren. My assumption is that Dr. Kim has all of the best intentions but he, like Dr. Graham, spent a lifetime working hard in the ministry with but one result; the spread of a contaminated gospel which is arguably no gospel at all. He spent his...

BJU then and now...The Southern Baptist Convention

Image
White Oak Baptist Church is located directly across the street from front campus. White Oak is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). For this reason, students were never allowed to darken its door...until now. Dr. Lonnie Polson , the division chair of the communications department at BJU, recently became the senior pastor of White Oak. Jeffrey Stegall who is an associate professor in the theater arts department is now the Music director at White Oak. White Oak continues its affiliation with the SBC. As you would expect, White Oak is recommended to students (along with several other SBC churches) for service and worship.     Sherwood Baptist Church is an SBC church in Albany Georga. From this church came the "Facing the Giants" Christian movies produced by the Kendrick Brothers. Priscilla Shirer (daughter of Tony Evans) was a 2018 speaker at the Passion Conference . She starred in War Room and co-starred in Overcomer . In the production ...

BJU then and now...Tim Geiger (continued)

Image
As noted previously Tim Geiger is the president of Harvest USA. He is also a contributor to The Gospel Coalition (TGC). Dr. Tim Keller is the co-founder and president of the TGC. His writings are also part of Mr. Geiger's resource collection at Harvest USA. Dr. Horn at the end of his interview with Geiger encouraged pastors to make use of these resources. Here is what Dr. Keller has to say about the sin of Homosexuality. Keller   Geiger and Keller (see my previous blog post on Geiger) say that homosexuality is a sin but they quickly qualify their statements by affirming that all sin is equal . There is no sin but the sins of the heart like pride or greed.    Mr. Geiger and Dr. Keller are both members of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). The PCA maintains in its own confession of faith  that all sins are not equal. Question 150: Are all transgressions of the law of God equally heinous in themselves, and in the sight of God? Ans...

BJU then and now...Tim Geiger

Image
For the 2019 CoRE conference titled Gender, Sexuality and The Church, Tim Geiger of Harvest USA was invited to speak to the BJU seminary. Mr. Geiger ministers within the PCA (Presbyterian Church of America) and The Gospel Coalition. Both the PCA and TGC are, in my judgment, left-leaning evangelical institutions. It is no secret that Geiger is not a dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist. Dr. Pettit acknowledged as much in his response to FBFI's raised eyebrows concerning Geiger's invitation to BJU. You can see the article here (Foundations Baptist Fellowship International). Pettit states,    " We fully understand that [Geiger] operate[s] outside of the fundamentalist, separatist orb". Dr. Pettit explains that the leadership at BJU has developed a "theological grid" tha t guides the leadership regarding associations. Geiger Who is Tim Geiger?    Tim Geiger is considered an expert in the field of sexual issues facing the church. Mr. Geiger is the h...

BJU then and now...Tim Tebow

Image
On March 2018 , BJU and the Bruins Foundation hosted "an evening with Tebow" "It’s a privilege to host Tim Tebow at BJU,” said Bruins Director of Athletics Neal Ring. “Throughout his life, Tebow has used the platform of sports to bring God glory." Is the Tebow appearance any different than a political candidate or secular academic specialist of past years at BJU? The new BJU administration clearly views Tebow as more than a professional athlete to speak to BJU athletes about athletics. Tebow is viewed as a spiritual leader to teach BJU students how to live godly lives in this world. In another article in BJUtoday : "Tim is popular in circles outside of the 'BJU bubble'. Bringing him in to speak at the Gala will draw to campus people who have never been to BJU. Some will come with no idea of what BJU is. Others will come with inaccurate ideas. This is an opportunity for the University to reach these new audiences— to correct misperceptions, to r...

BJU then and now...Martin Luther King

Image
On January 19, 2015 , Dr. Steve Pettit, president of BJU, spoke in chapel to faculty, staff, and students in regard to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: The article states..."Pettit noted we honor King for his sacrifice for a just cause and praise him for the pivotal role he played in ending segregation. Pettit challenged the BJU family to pray for racial harmony as we are all one in Christ’s body." On  November 29, 2016 , Dr. Pettit announced that BJU would observe MLK day beginning January 2017: “Dr. King accomplished much in his short life here on earth,” said Pettit. “We believe his voice and leadership to nonviolently oppose the wrongs of the day while paving the way for racial equality and harmony should be respected and honored.” On January 21, 2019 , Dr. Pettit once again praised and honored the legacy of MLK: "Dr. King said, 'Life’s most persistent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ While many see this as a 'day off,' we see it as a 'd...
